Deschutes Canyon Garlic
Jon and Gia grow garlic in Tumalo. They are both passionate about keeping their hands dirty and doing their small part to supplement the local healthy food system. They studied and worked in sustainable agriculture for 8 years before starting this venture.. Gia also work as a coordinator for the Rogue Farm Corps farming educational programs.
"We are certified organic. We use cover crops, compost and some supplemental fertilizers (blood meal, feather meal, kelp and fish emulsions) for our fertility. We use 7 year field rotations to avoid disease build up and to use minimal tillage. We grow 14 different strains of garlic because we are passionate about finding the ones best suited to grow in our desert climates. We believe garlic to be a medicine as well as a superfood! "
